About the Artist

Raoul Ubac, 1910–1985

Belgian artist Raoul Ubac trained as an artist while travelling in Europe between 1928 and 1934. Ubac joined the Surrealist group in Paris in the 1930’s and contributed photographic works to the Surrealist art journal ‘Minotaure’. His practice incorporated painting, sculpture, printmaking, tapestry and stained glass. Ubac’s work is represented in major American collections including the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco; the Art Institute of Chicago and the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
