    Joan Miró, 1893–1983

    Spanish artist Joan Miró is widely recognised for his major contribution to twentieth century art. His enormously varied body of work, including painting, sculpture, etching and collage, drew on the realms of memory and imaginative fantasy. Miró exhibited extensively throughout his career. His work is now represented in major public and private collections worldwide. The Joan Miró Foundation opened in his native city of Barcelona in 1976.
