    Antonio Frasconi, 1919–2013

    Printmaker, illustrator and woodcut master Antonio Frasconi was born in Argentina and grew up in Uruguay. Frasconi first exhibited drawings in 1939 at the Ateneo in Montevideo. He studied printmaking with various artists and in 1945, received a scholarship to attend the Art Students League, New York. Frasconi represented Uruguay at the 1968 Venice Biennale. He was named a National Academician by the New York Academy of Design the following year.
