About the Artist

Samuel Walsh b.1951

Irish painter and draughtsman Samuel Walsh (born 1951) studied art at the Limerick School of Art, philosophy at Mary Immaculate College of Education, and took his MFA at the National College of Art & Design. Walsh’s abstract compositions draw on subjects ranging from personal biography to the Stations of the Cross, Classical art and Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy'. Walsh has exhibited extensively in Ireland, Europe and the United States. In 1987, he founded the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing. His work is represented in public and private collections including the Arts Council of Ireland; Butler Gallery, Kilkenny, and Trinity College Dublin.
