Food for Thought, 1977

The script ‘Food for Thought’ was published by Beuys during the ‘One Hundred Days of the Free International University’ event that took placed for a period of 100 days in Documenta 6, Kassel, Germany in 1977. The script was sold to collect funds for the staff of the university. The text contains a food list, the record of a phone call and an Irish poem of the 6th century ‘The Vision of Mac Conglinne’.

About the Artist

Joseph Beuys, 1921–1986

German artist Joseph Beuys attended the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf and taught there from 1961 to 1972. In his teaching, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and performance, Beuys pursued an expanded concept of art that advocated creativity in everyday life. The first major retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 1979. His work is represented in major public collections worldwide.
