‘Crossing the Rapido VII’ is one of a series of explorations by O’Donoghue of the personal and the universal, combining the artist’s father’s history of war in Italy in 1940 with age-old depictions of battle and struggle and Christian religious imagery from the tradition of Michelangelo, Titian and Rubens.
