Born in Riga, Adja Yunkers studied art in Petrograd. He left Russia in 1919 and lived in Germany, France, Spain, Sweden and the United States. Influenced by Swedish Surrealism, German Expressionism and American Abstract Expressionism, Yunkers’ technically complex, often large scale, wood-cut prints and paintings described the materiality of colour. His later practice made extensive use of negative space and collage. His work is represented in major public collections in Europe and America.View Artist
