Dutch painter Jaap Wagemaker (1906 – 1972) was born in Haarlem, the Netherlands. At the age of 14 Wagemaker attended the Haarlem School of Architecture and Decorative Arts. On completing his studies he moved to Paris to pursue painting. He returned to the Netherlands in the early 1940s before resettling in Paris in 1952. Wagemaker exhibited regularly from the 1960s. He represented the Netherlands at the Venice Biennale in 1962 and had a solo exhibition at the Hague Municipal Museum in 1965.
