Studying the transmission of knowledge, didactics and the ideologies dictating varying forms of education and disseminating these ideologies associated with play, creativity and productivity in contemporary society, works by Priscila Fernandes often address this conflation of meaning, in particular when used as instruments in maintaining cultural norms, social integration and as tools for the construction of the individual and society. Fernandes works a variety of mediums including drawing, sound and video installations.
Recent exhibitions are The Book of Aesthetic Education of the Modern School, The Joan Miró Foundation, Barcelona; Playgrounds, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; Learning for Life, Henie-Onstad Kunstcentre, Oslo; Abstract Possible: Stockholm Synergies, Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm and After the Future, EVA International Biennial, Limerick. Fernandes has won the prestigious EDP Novos Artistas, Portugal and the Prix de Rome, Netherlands and was a recent recipient of a production grant from the Mondrian Fonds, Netherlands and a research grant from the O&O Research Centrum Beeldende Kunst, Rotterdam. She has been resident at IASPIS, Stockholm and most recently at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin.
