Overview

Phuttiphong Aroonpheng, We all know each other, film still, ongoing, Coutesy of the artist

Studio 3B
November 2007 – February 2008
Film

Thai artist Phuttiphong Aroonpheng’s art practice is encounter driven. He is inspired by many documentary films that create a form of subjective storytelling. In his films Phuttiphong creates partially factual narratives based on the culture he is immersed in and the inhabitants surrounding him. These films are experiments in collective storytelling and are also utilised as an investigation and dialogue about the nature of film as a medium. “In the beginning we start with our family, however as we grow, this relationship becomes more diluted into the social, national and the world. The further the distance we travel, the more people we meet, the more disconnected our new relationships become. Through this dilution the strangeness of the connections to each other are increased”. While on residency Phuttiphong will continue his ongoing project We all know each other which explores the relationships outlined above. He will document these stories from the locality of his surroundings in Dublin. Phuttiphong Aroonpheng studied in Bangkok and New York and has shown his films extensively throughout Thailand and the USA. His residency is kindly supported by the Office of Contemporary Art and Ministry of Culture Thailand.
