Irish artist and performer Maurice O'Connell (born 1966) continually questions the role of the artist in contemporary society. From the 1990s, O’Connell undertook a series of projects with national cultural organisations to explore the role of the audience in cultural production. He has also worked with theatre, installation and site specific performance. O’Connell has completed residencies in Ireland, Britain, France, the Netherlands and the US. In 2013 he was appointed creative associate with Northumberland based performing arts company NovemberClub.
