Chilean painter and graphic artist Juan Gomez Quiroz studied at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Chile. He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in 1962 to study at Rhode Island School of Design and later studied at Yale University School of Art and Architecture and the Pratt Graphic Centre in New York. Gomez Quiroz was assistant professor in the Department of Art at New York University from 1969 to 1976 and in 1990 became assistant curator at the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Art in New York. From 1995 until 2000 he was Director of Writer's Space, a creative literature workshop teaching poetry and fiction in Spanish at Hostos Community College, City University of New York.
