Kildare Village headline sponsor of IMMA’s Desire: A Revision exhibition

Luxury shopping destination, Kildare Village, has become the first fashion brand to partner with IMMA, becoming the headline sponsor for the upcoming exhibition Desire: A Revision from the 20th Century to the Digital Age, which opens on Culture Night, Friday, 20th September 2019. Bringing fashion, art and culture together, this new partnership welcomes a number of exciting activities including works from the National Collection been exhibited outside of IMMA, along with a programme of events in Kildare Village and at IMMA.

To coincide with the opening of Desire: A Revision, Kildare Village will house pieces from the National Collection of Modern and Contemporary Art. Works by Dorothy Cross, Alexandra Wejchert Barry Flanagan, Isabel Nolan, Rebecca Horn, Patrick Scott amongst others will be installed in Kildare Village.

IMMA is also delighted to announce that they will open a temporary IMMA Pop Up Shop in Kildare Village selling sought after limited edition prints, art catalogues and, of course, the fun quirky gifts that the IMMA Shop is loved for.

As part of this partnership, Kildare Village will host a number of events for fashion, art and culture lovers of all ages both in IMMA and in Kildare Village. Kildare Village will also put in place plans to extend IMMA’s Azure programme this November. To celebrate the IMMA partnership, the Desire exhibition and to show their commitment to supporting Irish art and culture the building facades, boutique windows and various touchpoints around Kildare Village will be designed, decorated, painted and sculpted.

Desire: A Revision from the 20th Century to the Digital Age will open on Culture Night – Friday 20 September.

This international group exhibition will explore the evolving role of desire in art and life, in particular its relationship to structures of power, individualism and emerging collective actions. Spanning almost 100 years, the exhibition follows the development of desire through the lens of the Eurocentric male gaze and its influence in shaping artistic depictions of desire in contemporary culture, across the East and West. Artists featured in the exhibition at IMMA include Matthew Barney, Frank Bowling, Lee Bul, Oisín Byrne, Helen Chadwick, Dorothy Cross, David Douard, Marcel Duchamp, Tracey Emin, Justine Emard, Max Ernst, Awol Erizku, Cao Fei, Genieve Figgis, Ann Maria Healy, Elaine Hoey, James Joyce, Bharti Kher, Jonah King, Seiha Kurosawa, Yayoi Kusama, Rene Magritte, Eddie Peake, Tschabalala Self, VALIE EXPORT and others.

The partnership with IMMA, which is a crucial platform for Irish and international art, represents Kildare Village’s commitment to supporting Irish art and culture. The collaboration will include a programme of events and innovative installations in the Village, offering its guests the chance to experience the exhibition in another setting.

The exhibition, which is on show until March 2020, has been curated by Rachel Thomas – Senior Curator; Head of Exhibitions, IMMA, Dublin – and Yuko Hasegawa, Artistic Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo.
