The IMMA Collection is a unique resource which is made available to the public through a vibrant programme of temporary exhibitions and projects. Collection Exhibitions may explore the work of an individual artist, or address a theme or historic period, notably the highly successful exhibition The Moderns in 2010-2011.

IMMA Collection: Freud Project, 2016 – 2021
The IMMA Collection has secured a significant five-year loan of 50 works by one of the greatest realist painters of the 20th century, Lucian Freud (1922-2011). The works, on loan from private collections, will be presented in a series of exhibitions in a dedicated Freud Centre in IMMA’s Garden Galleries for five years, 2016 - 2021. All 50 works will be shown during the first year.

The Hennessy Art Fund for IMMA Collection
The Hennessy Art Fund for IMMA Collection supports the acquisition of works by artists not yet represented by the IMMA Collection of Contemporary and Modern Art. The Hennessy Art Fund exhibition showcases the four Irish based artists whose work will now join IMMA’s Collection, funded by Hennessy Ireland. The chosen artists for 2016, the first year of the fund, are Kevin Atherton, David Beattie, Rhona Byrne and Dennis McNulty.

IMMA Collection: A Decade
IMMA, as the national cultural institution for collecting modern and contemporary art, aims to acquire examples of the most significant Irish art of the day as well as key works by international artists many of whom have been part of the museum’s temporary exhibition and residency programmes.
